Structured data describes a page in a machine-readable format. For a store, it can help systems interpret product information. It must remain consistent with the page, stay current and follow each search engine’s guidelines.

01

First inspect what the theme outputs

A Shopify theme or SEO app may already generate Product, Offer and variant data. Adding a second implementation without inspection can create conflicting statements or duplicates.

Inspect rendered HTML for representative products: a simple product, one with variants, an out-of-stock item and a discounted offer. Record each property and its source before editing the theme.

02

Match every field to the visible offer

Name, price, currency, availability and variants should describe the item actually shown and purchasable. Reviews and ratings should come only from genuine visible and eligible reviews. Do not add properties just to surface information the page does not show.

When a Shopify value is missing, leaving a field absent is better than publishing an invented or outdated value. Plan updates when price, inventory or variants change.

  • Price and currency matching the market and selected variant.
  • Availability consistent with inventory and the purchase flow.
  • Reliable product identifiers where available.
  • Markup content reflected in the rendered page.
03

Validate representative pages

Use testing tools and Search Console reports to find errors and warnings, then verify the page itself. A clean test does not certify commercial accuracy and does not guarantee a rich result will appear.

Formats and requirements can change. Recheck after theme or app updates, and test different variants rather than one URL only.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does structured data automatically improve rankings?

No. They help describe a page and may make it eligible for certain displays, but neither eligibility nor improved rankings are guaranteed.

Can I publish aggregate ratings if reviews are not visible?

Structured data must match presented content and follow applicable policies. Do not invent, hide or copy reviews to pursue a rich result.
